You believe that learning does not stop at the end of the school day. When students are tired after a full day of school, you are there to make a difference in their day. While you are supervising a big group of students, you are the kind of person that can still make our students feel heard and give them the attention that they require. You also enjoy developing and supporting others and you love to organize: planning fun activities for the day and seeing them through is what gives you a feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day.
You are a certificated, After School Care Coordinator with a diploma which allows you to work with children (in Dutch system SPW4, SPH, or equivalent). This qualification is imperative by the Dutch Childcare Law. You are familiar with general concepts of child growth and development (emphasis on social, emotional, and physical development) in order to plan and supervise children in an after school setting. Knowledge of Pediatric First Aid is an asset.
In addition you:
The Role: As After School Care Assistant, your daily activities involve supervising and taking care of the after school care students children in their daily activities. Together with the After School Care Coordinator and the rest of the team, you will be responsible for the daily after school care and development of ASH students from Elementary and Middle school age 3 to 14. This role is supervised by the After School Care Coordinator/ HR Manager.
The Work: Some days you will pick-up children from the main building, other days you will welcome children who come to our building by minibus. In all cases, the Croco Club rooms have been prepared by the team to look welcoming and ready to be played in. On Wednesdays or other longer days, we prepare activities for the children to do. The children start their afternoon in the Croco Club by sharing a snack moment wherein they can talk about their day with each other, and you. When the children are done, they decide where they want to play. We have lots of fun corners and options, and maybe go outside. You notice which child needs some stimulation to play with others, and discuss your strategy with your colleagues at a quiet moment. Time for another snack, and to enjoy each other's conversations at the table. After this moment, the children play a bit more, before we round up the day and start tidying together. One by one, the children are picked up by their parents. You make sure the parents know how the afternoon of their child has been, and you answer any questions they might have. If you have any questions yourself, the after school care coordinator is there to support you in anything you might need.
