American School of The Hague (ASH) is looking for a full-time HR Officer. 
Start date is May 1, 2025.

Location: Wassenaar, the Netherlands 
Language Skills: Fluent English is Essential, Dutch is considered an advantage

You want to work for an international company where you can make a difference. You will be the go to person for our staff, no HR related query is too big or small for you. You’ll handle it in your usual positive manner as you like helping people. Whether it is advising a manager about a complex employment issue or a staff member with a question about their vacation hours, the people you interact with feel valued and respected; their day goes just that bit better as a result of your help. 

You have a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or an equivalent field and at least 3 years of working experience in HR in the Netherlands. You show great administrative skills, organizational skills and are capable of multitasking and working on tight deadlines. You enjoy working in a team. Ideally, you have working knowledge of AFAS Profit, but this is not a necessity.

In addition you have:

  • excellent written and spoken communication skills, 
  • a customer friendly attitude and an eye for detail,
  • a flexible mindset: you can easily switch between tasks of varying degrees of complexity.

The Role: As HR Officer, you provide staff and management with advice on employment matters. You are also responsible for the administration and preparation of files, contracts and benefits. You will join the HR team consisting of 1 HR Assistant, 2 HR Officers and the HR Manager. Together, we enable the 260 staff members of our school to give our students the best possible learning experience.

The Work:You advise management and staff about all HR related topics such as policies, recruitment, salary, pension, staff appraisal, sickness and employment law. You also play a significant role in the on- and offboarding of staff including all administrative and organizational tasks. 

As HR Officer you:

  • liaise with governmental organizations such as IND, UWV, DUO and Department of Justice,
  • are responsible for the applications, renewal and follow-up on staff residence permits and work permits,
  • coordinate and administratively support the schools health care collective,
  • support the transition to and from The Netherlands of all expatriate staff members,
  • coordinate any long term illness cases by supporting our employees and managers,
  • coordinate various projects such as the further digitisation of our HR administration and our employee engagement survey,
  • monitor the HR mailbox, resolving queries and escalating if necessary,
  • assist our external payroll company with the monthly payroll,
  • organize staff holiday events,
  • perform other tasks as assigned by the HR Manager.
